Forward Thinking Magazine : December 2010
48 In the spotlight Each edition Forward Thinking speaks with the people at the forefront of Macquarie Adviser Services. This edition, we speak with Carolyn Colley, Head of MAS Strategy. 1. Who has inspired you most both professionally and personally? Easily my mother - an inspiration both personally and professionally. She left school at 14 to help support her family after her father passed away, then raised me and my three sisters as a single mother. In 1995 she went back to university, completed a BA and retired last year at age 70 from her role as the business manager of International House at Sydney University. 2. At school I wanted to... Be a police woman, but only wanted to do the bit where you go around to schools and talk about stranger danger. 3. My mother always told me... Lots of things, but I think most importantly she always has the right advice at the right time. 4. I’m very good at... Having fun at work. 5. I’m very bad at... Spelling, thank goodness for spell check. 6. I don’t like talking about... Myself, but I’m happy to drag information out of others. 7. I like talking about... At work, the future of the industry, what might play out and what we can do to participate, and personally my three children aged 11 and twins aged nine. 8. If I wasn’t in my current role I’d be... A golf professional (although I would need to work on my handicap). 9. My last meal would be... Sushi and sashimi. 10. My financial planner is always telling me... To invest my excess cash.
